At Least It's Sunny

What to do with all this free time..

My laptop battery finally powered its last session. After three replacement cords and months of having to position the cable in the exact right position, my laptop finally refused to accept any charge. This is after weeks of it prompting me with a message to consider replacing my battery. Well laptop, I'm definitely forced to consider it now aren't I? Since I have a somewhat uncommon Gateway brand laptop this meant ordering a replacement from the aptly named laptopbatteryexpress.com. Well express or not, I am still without a functioning laptop while my battery slowly makes its way towards me.

Anyways, that is my long winded excise for negleting my blog.

But in all honestly, I have haven't felt like posting. Not much has changed from my last post; I still miss Toronto entirely too much, I'm still planning a bridal shower and now also the dessert menu for the wedding itself, and I'm still not entirely used to the quiet.

But a few things have changed.

I have confirmed my move to Vancouver this September. I have been accepted into Kwantlen University's Fashion Marketing program after a year of being waitlisted and complete my registration next week. This means I'll be living in one city for the next two years and considering I have moved cities every 3-5 months since highschool, thats a big commitement. So I am in the market for a new apartment and a rooommate. So let me know if any of you know of anything; I bake and I clean, people!

I have also been trying to keep myself busy here on Vancouver Island. I worked for a day on a TV show set as a background perfomer, I shot once again with one of my favourite Island photographers, Jonathan Bell, I've helped in an opening soon restaurant that might lead to a job, I've picked up an actual job working at Aldo as well as agreeing to handle all Pure Life Paddle Boards' social media,  and I had an interview for yet another job yesterday. Anything to fill the void in me that comes with being back in the lull of my hometown.

NAFA Fashion Show

Monday, February 25, 2013

When my agent emailed me informing me I was on hold for a show, she had two questions for me: do I wear fur? and do I have any tattoos? With a yes to the first and a no to the latter, I didn't think anything of it.

When the details of the confirmed job came through I realized I had inadvertently agreed to model for the largest fur auction house in North America. While I'm not about to go picket on behalf of PETA anytime soon and I admit to owning a few rabbit fur accessories, I was not very pleased when I arrived on location and found myself in a warehouse full of fur pelts. A large area had been cleared for the stage and seating so I wasn't exactly amidst the furs except those that hung respectively on their hangers but it was the smell that got to me. I never got fully used to it in the five hours I was there, but oddly enough, I wasn't disgusted wearing the coats despite it. I suppose once the pelts are made into garments I no longer associate them as closely with the animals they used to be.

Moving past the fur, the show itself was a hectic one but ended up being quite fun. It’s been a while since I’ve been on a runway, and this no pressure show was a great way to get some paid practice in before Toronto Fashion Week hits next month.

The video below is quite long. I can be seen at 1:35, 9:35, 13:00, 16:54, 19:00 and the finale at 21:13. I walked a total of seven times - the most I have ever done in one show.

My Next City Affair

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

I am now in possession of a one way ticket to Toronto and limited artistic skills

I’ve gotten pretty good at leaving. At packing up a season’s worth of clothes, saying goodbye to a season’s worth of friends which is always the part I dread and heading to the subsequent destination. Next week will be my seventh move in the past year and a half including three countries in Asia, and three cities in British Columbia. It’s a life full of new beginnings and a lot of opportunities to either get lost or find myself, whichever I prefer.

Now that my arrival plans are finalized for my Toronto trip, excitement is finally beginning to work its way into my mind. Being at home for the past month has been relaxing and comforting and just a bit distressing; I’ve caught up with family and old friends, picked up forgotten habits, and had time to hear myself think. Nonetheless, I’ve been going stir crazy half the time. My motivation dissipates when I don’t have something to keep me going. The thought of my new downtown apartment in Toronto and a new job working with Elite Model Management makes me feel like I’m back on track.

Despite my ticket being a one way purchase, I plan on returning to BC in three or four months after my affair with the east. I did promised my parents I would not fall in love in love in Toronto and stay there but I make no promises, my heart is not in the habit of listening to me and I may just fall in love – either with a man or more likely, with the city itself. Although, it will have to be pretty outstanding to replace Vancouver or even Tokyo in my heart.

Wolf Circus Video

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

A short and sweet video put together by Jennifer Dickinson from our Wolf Circus shoot. She managed to captured the care free vibe of the shoot in 35 seconds. Watching this video from Bangkok made me miss the west coast scenery at home, even though that was a very cold day to be on the beach! Ah the things we do for fashion.
